What Happened in This Scene?
Prince Devavrata took a solemn vow before King Shantanu and Satyavati. To fulfill his father’s happiness and protect the future of the kingdom, he renounced his claim to the throne and promised lifelong celibacy. This terrible and unforgettable vow was so great that Devavrata came to be known as Bhishma, the one who made the mighty vow.
